Curious about the moment that shaped Paul Woods’ journey as a comic artist, we asked him to reflect on a defining experience. He told us, It’s a small thing, but it meant a lot. A friend of mine was working in a remote mine in Western Queensland, Australia. One day, he went into the mess room at his place where workers grabbed a coffee or meal before heading out for their shifts. He noticed someone had cut out one of my cartoons from a newspaper and pinned it on the noticeboard because they found it funny. When he shared that with me, I was overjoyed. It’s moments like that that show you don’t need to have your work in the Louvre to have an impact.
