Crafting a Story to Illuminate Borderline Personality Disorder for Young Minds (11 Pics)

Hello, I am Dima Eichhorn a creator of children’s books and illustrations. My latest work is titled Monday with Miss Kitty. The core concept behind this project was to design a book that functions both as a charming bedtime story and as a helpful resource for introducing the concept of borderline personality disorder to younger audiences. Through this book, I aimed to blend storytelling with education offering a gentle way for kids to engage with complex emotional themes.

Monday with Miss Kitty is a picture book that captures the rhythm of a cat’s ordinary day starting with an early morning meow followed by playful adventures in the afternoon and concluding with a peaceful evening walk. The humor of the story arises from the playful contrast between the narrative and the illustrations creating a delightful experience for readers as the text and images offer an amusing twist on the everyday life of a cat.

Monday with Miss Kitty is not just a simple picture book about a playful cat’s daily antics. Beneath the surface, the story of Miss Kitty subtly mirrors the behaviors associated with borderline personality disorder. This allows the book to serve as a thoughtful resource for parents professionals and loved ones who wish to gently introduce young children to the complexities of the disorder. By using the cat’s actions as a relatable example the book encourages understanding and empathy in an accessible way.

The idea for Monday with Miss Kitty was born from my own childhood experiences where mental health challenges existed but were rarely talked about, especially with us children. It took me a long time to truly understand and come to terms with these issues. I believe it’s essential to start conversations about mental health with children, even at a young age. Doing so helps foster growth understanding and a healthier environment for everyone involved.

What sets Monday with Miss Kitty apart from my other books is the extensive research I conducted on borderline personality disorder before I even began writing the story. I worked closely with a cognitive-behavioral therapist to ensure that the main character’s behavior accurately reflected the traits of someone with borderline personality disorder. This collaboration influenced not just the writing but also the illustrations, ensuring that both elements worked together to portray the disorder in a thoughtful and accurate way.
