20 Absurdly Amusing One-Panel Comics To Confuse and Delight By Joey Murphy and Brandon Martin

Joey Murphy and Brandon Martin, the masterminds behind Unhinged Doodles have taken the art of random one-panel comics to dazzling new heights. What began as an impromptu scribble fest during the global lockdown has now captured the attention of a growing tribe of 29.7K devoted fans. Hailing from the far-flung wilderness of Alaska, Joey channels his digital wizardry into each comic. Brandon, once rocking out as a touring musician now channels his love for absurdity through sharp quirky writing. Together, they create a delightful mishmash of humor-part chaotic part genius. The pair’s creations blend seemingly random moments with unexpected punchlines leaving viewers wondering whether they’ve witnessed the start of a new comedy genre or simply a series of nonsensical observations. Their work has been compared to the likes of The Far Side and New Yorker but with a twist that feels more at home in a 90s sitcom or a dream about snack foods. Each comic is like a bite-sized riddle of life, where every moment is ripe for comedic exploration and nothing is too trivial for a laugh whether it’s an awkward encounter with a traffic cone or an ill-timed existential crisis. The duo’s unique approach to one-panel art guarantees that you’ll never look at a chair cat or cup of coffee the same way again.

Joey, a visual wizard with an eye for the absurd, and Brandon a connoisseur of quirky humor team up to create comics that defy the laws of logic and reason. The duo’s partnership is like a dance, though neither of them can remember the choreography. We were intrigued by how they managed to stay in sync while producing their strange yet charming masterpieces. Joey and I have a near-perfect system Brandon explained. It’s me bombarding him with random thoughts via text at any given moment 3 AM, 11 PM you name it apologies Joey. If Joey even remotely likes it I’ll get a casual LOL. But if it’s really good. I get the coveted HAHAHA. Then a few days later I got a rough sketch from him that blows my mind every time. It’s like he’s reading my brain but with better art skills.

Brandon shared that the inbox of Quickies is often flooded with messages from fans each one a tribute to their oddball humor. Phrases like this made my day and I couldn’t stop laughing for hours is common creating a strange sense of achievement. It’s an amazing feeling to know we are making people laugh Brandon said. That’s always been the goal. But then one day, we got a message from a fan who got a tattoo of one of our comics. That was a whole new level of mind-blowing. Joey, a little taken aback agreed adding, I can’t even get myself to commit to a shirt design let alone a tattoo. But hey that’s dedication. The duo now has their eyes on even bigger aspirations possibly creating a comic that inspires a whole new fashion trend or better yet a theme park ride.
