Wife’s Diary
Tonight, I couldn’t shake the feeling that Tom was acting a bit strange. We had arranged to meet at a charming restaurant for dinner, but after spending the day shopping with my friends, I arrived later than planned.
The conversation felt stilted, and I started to worry that he was upset about my tardiness, even though he didn’t say a word about it. I suggested we find a quieter spot to chat, and he nodded in agreement, yet he remained tight-lipped. When I asked if something was bothering him, he replied, “Nothing.” I even inquired if I was the reason for his mood.
He assured me he wasn’t upset and that it had nothing to do with me, urging me not to fret. On our way home, I told him I loved him, and he offered a slight smile but continued to drive in silence. His lack of a reciprocal “I love you” left me puzzled.
Once we were home, I felt an overwhelming sense of loss, as if he had emotionally distanced himself from me. He sat quietly, fixated on the TV, seeming more absent than ever. With the silence hanging heavy in the air, I decided to head to bed. About fifteen minutes later, he joined me, but I could sense his thoughts were miles away.
As he drifted off to sleep, I couldn’t help but cry. My mind raced with worry; I was almost convinced his thoughts were with someone else.
My life feels like a complete mess.
