The Tragic Lunch Routine

Story Description

In this darkly humorous tale, three construction workers—a no-nonsense Australian, a frustrated Finn, and a self-sufficient Swede—grow weary of their repetitive lunches while perched on a beam high above the city. Each vows to jump if they receive the same meal one more time. The next day, their lunches deliver the same unsatisfying foods: pies, sausages, and meatballs. True to their word, each man leaps to his death. At the funeral, their widows are left in disbelief, wondering why their husbands didn’t simply ask for a different meal. The Swede’s widow, however, is even more confused—her husband made his own lunch.

This story highlights the absurdity of stubbornness, miscommunication, and the dangers of taking things too literally.
